What Makes a Question Worth Researching

How to tell a question that will teach you something from one that only sounds important.

[Sample text] This is placeholder copy that stands in for a finished research note. It carries no findings; it only shows how a shorter piece reads on this site.

A research note often opens with the question it asks. This paragraph plays that part, with emphasis and strong text to show the type, and a link to show how links look inside a sentence.

Three tests for a question

  1. Could the answer change what someone does next?
  2. Can it be settled with evidence that exists or can be gathered?
  3. Is it narrow enough to finish?

Sample text after the numbered list, so the page shows how an ordered list sits in the body.

Placeholder quotation. A pull quote is set apart from the body in the same way on every page.

Where it breaks down

Sample text under a smaller heading. None of this wording belongs to a real publication.

A closing line after the rule, where a note might name its limits.
